These were incredibly popular in the mid-to-late 20th century (1960s–1980s) and are valued today for their lightweight, rustic aesthetic.
Material: It is made from thin veneers of wood (often mahogany, acacia, or tsubaki wood) that are woven or layered and then pressed into a mold with food-safe resin or lacquer.
Design: The "checkerboard" or "woven" pattern is the hallmark of this style. Unlike solid wood bowls carved from a single block, these are much thinner and more resistant to cracking because the cross-grain construction prevents warping.
